How to charge an electric moped if you live in a flat (no driveway)

No off-street parking? Removable batteries mean you charge indoors — no wall-box, no cable trailing to the street.

Can you charge an electric moped if you live in a flat with no driveway?

Yes — and it’s easier than charging an electric car, because Moon Fleets mopeds use removable batteries. You simply take the battery (or two) out, carry it inside, and charge it from a normal 3-pin socket in your flat. There’s no need for a driveway, a wall-box, or a cable trailing across the pavement — which is exactly the problem that stops most flat-dwellers going electric.

A full charge costs pennies and most commuters spend about £2 a week. You park the moped in a motorcycle bay outside (free in most London boroughs) and just bring the battery up with you, like a laptop charger.

How do removable batteries solve charging in a flat?

Trailing a charging cable from a third-floor flat to a moped on the street isn’t practical (or legal in many places). Removable batteries sidestep it entirely: the battery comes out in seconds, has a carry handle, and charges anywhere with a standard socket — your hallway, kitchen or bedroom.

Each battery is around the weight of a small suitcase. If your moped has two, you can charge one while riding on the other, so you’re never caught short.

Where do you park vs where do you charge?

Park the moped itself in a designated motorcycle bay near home — free in most London boroughs (see our borough parking guide). The bike stays outside; only the battery comes inside to charge.

On a Moon Fleets subscription the charger is provided, and servicing and battery health are included — so you don’t have to worry about the kit or the long-term condition of the battery.
