How to commute in London by electric moped: the complete guide
Everything you need to start commuting by electric moped in London — from licence to first ride.
How do I start commuting in London by electric moped?
There are four steps: get a CBT if you want a moped (a one-day course, ~£130, valid two years) — or pick a no-licence cargo e-bike; choose a vehicle that suits your distance and speed; subscribe (from £125–£179/month, all-inclusive); and collect it from the West London store. Most commuters are riding within days.
A Moon Fleets subscription bundles third-party insurance, servicing, GPS tracking and an anti-theft lock into one monthly price, with no deposit and no minimum term. Every vehicle is fully electric — no ULEZ, no Congestion Charge, no road tax — so you commute door-to-door, on your own schedule.
Step 1: Sort your licence (or skip it)
To ride a moped you need a CBT plus a provisional or full licence. Book the CBT with any DVSA-approved London school for around £130; it’s valid two years. If you’d rather not, choose an electric cargo bike — no licence or CBT required.

Step 2: Choose the right vehicle
Match the vehicle to your commute: the Askoll eS3 for easy everyday trips, the Vmoto VS2 Citi or Super Soco CPX for longer/faster routes, or the CYCL Carr-e / ETT Trayser 2.0 cargo e-bikes if you want no licence. All are electric and ULEZ-exempt.

Step 3: Subscribe, collect and ride
Subscribe online from £125–£179/month, book a pickup slot, and collect from our West London store, where we’ll set you up with the vehicle, the app and the batteries. Insurance, servicing, GPS and a lock are all included.
Then it’s door-to-door commuting on your schedule — and because it’s month-to-month, you can switch vehicles or stop whenever you like.
